What is the role of the dental professional in assessing the misuse of tobacco, marijuana, alcohol and other drugs?  Examine the impact of these substances on systemic health.  Treatment, prevention for youth, motivational strategies and FDA approved medication will be covered.

Dental Pain? Or Not? Differentiating Facial Pain (2 hours pain management) by Susan Paurazas DDS, MS MHSA (VCS, LLC)

What are the conditions that mimic dental pain?  We will examine the proper diagnosis in treating dental pain.  And, take a look at non odontogenic sources of pain as well as the management of conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, atypical facial pain and sinusitis.

Sex, Drugs and Oral Cancer by Tiffany Fay RDH (Forward Science and VCS, LLC)

Oral Cancer has risen each of the past seven years and is now affecting younger patients with no traditional risk factors.  Due to a 225% increase in HPV related oropharyngeal cancers you need to know how to perform a comprehensive extra-oral and intraoral exam and have excellent communication skills.  Learn about adjunctive technologies for early discovery of oral cancer.

We are often left questioning whether we have provided the standard of care suitable to halt the progression of periodontal disease for the gingivitis patient.  What are the current inconsistencies and treatment planning for the gingivitis patient?  Review the D4648 CDT Code and examine the most current periodontal classifications.
